“you are like the spring”

You are like the spring—
tender and surpassingly new—
a daylight opening gentle wings
as fresh as early dew.

You are the green in the waking lawn,
a hush before the bloom,
the gold-brushed cheek of blushing dawn
stirring color from winter’s tomb.

In laughter, rivers loosen ice
and wander, free from care,
your hands unfolding tulip’s price
upon the tempered air.

You are like the spring—
a promise spun from light—
each glance, a bright imagining,
each word, the world made right.

Around you, hope is seeded deep,
and suddenly, I see
how gardens rise from restful sleep—
a second chance for me.
