“when i sing i am transported”

When I sing, I am carried away—
Notes unfurl wings, then lightly sway
Above the hum of the common day
To where my heart has longed to stray.

I leave behind the ticking clocks,
The distant din, the crowded blocks;
A single breath—a world unlocks
On melodies that calm and shock.

My kitchen tiles, a tiled floor,
Become a ballroom, then a shore
Where every verse can raise and soar—
Each note a lantern, lighting more.

The touch of keys, the gentle sound
Of harmonies that swirl around,
Become new tides on which I’m found,
Lost, and yet, profoundly bound.

For in my song, the world expands;
I hold the sun, the sea, the sands;
With every phrase, with open hands,
I drift to bright and foreign lands.

So let me sing, and I shall be
Unfettered, boundless, wild, and free,
Transported past what eyes can see—
When music calls, I answer me.
