“The silence of outer space”

Silence deeper than midnight snow,
A hush where distant starfields glow;
Across the cosmic, velvet dome
No voice to call, no sound to roam.

Between the planets, wide and far,
Drifts not a whisper, not a scar
Of breeze or echo, laugh or sigh—
Only the silence, vast and high.

Mute, the comet’s shining thread
Trails memories of suns long dead;
Galaxies tumble, wheel, and spin
But all their clamoring stays within.

Light alone dares make the trip,
Slipping past each asteroid’s grip;
Even brave radio waves must strain
To bridge those gulfs, to break the chain.

Astronaut, with breath held tight,
Floats in this soundless, endless night;
Heartbeat and hum inside his suit
Are all that’s left—time’s slow pursuit.

In outer space, the silence reigns,
Quiet as hope, or longing’s pains;
Not emptiness, but mystery—
A calm where dreams drift infinitely.
