“Sunrise”

A hush before the golden burst,
Night’s velvet secrets nearly dispersed,
The cotton clouds in gentle flight
Blush softly pink with newborn light.

A single star detaches, slow—
Its diamond fire dulls below—
While eastern fields, dew-draped and still,
Begin to glimmer on the hill.

The wind holds breath; a robin calls,
As honey seeps down maple walls,
And city spires ignite in rose,
The silent glass in blush composed.

Up climbs the sun through amber haze,
Resolving dreams with ardent gaze,
And shadows shrivel on the lane,
As day arrives in bright refrain.

From furrowed earth to waking seas,
The world unfolds, heart set at ease,
In dawn’s embrace, the promise bright:
Each day is born of morning’s light.
