“Sleep slides softly behind my eyes”
Sleep slides softly behind my eyes—
A silken hush, a velvet tide—
It drifts like dusk through window panes,
And winds me in its gentle chains.
The world outside grows porcelain,
Stilled breath of trees, a faint refrain.
Dream’s filigree in shadow wove,
Soft as the flight of nesting dove.
Unspooling thoughts begin to blur—
A whispered plea, a half-known word,
A lull of crickets near the sill
Drowses the mind, the body still.
Sleep curls around my weary mind,
A ribboned mist, opaque and kind,
And with a sigh, I slip away—
Night’s secret guest, in cool duvet.
So let the hours lightly fall
Like powdered stars across my wall.
Sleep slides softly, sweet and wise,
To paint bright worlds behind my eyes.
