“One day the screens will all go black”
One day the screens will all go black—
The humming blue, the urgent ping,
Will hush like thunder holding back,
No icons flicker, no voices ring.
A gentle dusk will sweep our rooms,
That once were bright with phantom light.
No scrolling news, no distant blooms
Of faces pixel-perfect, bright.
The silver glow on eager skin,
The tapping keys, the digit’s leap—
These subtle bonds we nestled in
Will fold into a dreamless sleep.
Then, listen—how the silence grows.
A hallway clock declares the time;
Outside, the wind in wild repose,
The laughter of the hidden chime.
We’ll find our words in softer ways—
The arc of hand, the meeting eyes,
And dare to spend the golden days
Where memory, not data, lies.
So steady heart, and lift your gaze
Past LCD and quiet phone—
For life will fill the silent haze
With voices warm, with love full-grown.
One day the screens will all go black;
But do not fear the gentle night.
For when the world calls our eyes back,
We’ll rediscover ancient light.
