“New Year books”

On shelves asleep through winter’s hush,
The spines await the January rush—
Fresh tomes in jackets gold and bright,
Their stories wrapped in frosty light.

A ribbon slips from chapter’s start,
Resolves and dreams within my heart:
A journal crisp with hopes untold,
A classic friend both wise and old.

Biography of starry fame,
Adventures wild I cannot name,
A cookbook’s page of ginger steam
To feed the gentlest winter dream.

Pages flutter, worlds begin—
Grand empires rise and fall within
A single chair, a single night,
Lit gently by the firelight.

Each word a wish, each tale a door
To hearts and hands and years before.
Through sleet and snow, through joy and gloom,
New Year’s books bring spring to every room.
