“My puppy, peaches”
Golden downy, eager tumble—
Peaches wags from sleepy jumble,
Apricot ears in morning sun,
Begging for the day to run.
Wet-nose nuzzle, slipper stealer,
Paws that pat the kitchen tile,
Chasing light-streaks ever quicker—
Peaches’ mischief in her smile.
Out in dewy grass she dances,
Chasing bees without a care,
Yapping at her phantom chances—
Freedom ringing in the air.
Gentle brown eyes, always gleaming,
Muzzle dipped in peanut butter,
Curled beside me softly dreaming
Every night—my heart’s flutter.
Oh, Peaches, paws upon my knee,
Life is sweeter—thanks to thee.
Every wag and clumsy leap,
Memories I’ll always keep.
