“My 2 dogs Vance and Roo”
In morning’s gold when the sky is young,
The song of two companions has only begun—
Vance with his coat of cinnamon flame,
Roo with the ears and the breezy name.
Vance is the elder, calm and wise,
Thoughtful brown eyes reflect sunrise.
He pads through the grass with a regal grace,
A steady old soul in a furry embrace.
Roo, the whirlwind, swift and small,
Chasing the shadows that flicker on walls,
Her paws are a blur as she leaps through the dew,
Her tail an exclamation, her spirit anew.
Together they bound through the fields and the street,
A duet of paws, the thunder of feet,
Vance finds the stick, Roo brings it back,
In a never-ending, joyful track.
When daylight hangs low and dusk starts to fall,
They curl close together, heed love’s gentle call,
Two beating hearts in a nest by my shoe—
My steadfast Vance, my rambunctious Roo.
So here’s to the memories written in fur,
Of muddy adventures, of nights that were—
Once in a lifetime you’re blessed, it’s true,
With dogs like Vance—
And Roo.
