“Missing preschool with a cough and feeling yucky. Wanted to play with Wally and Simon. Kids poem. Simple words and rhymes”
I woke up this morning, my head felt hot,
A tickle in my throat—I coughed a lot.
No backpack or sneakers, I stayed in my bed,
Dreams of playground swings danced in my head.
Mom brought me tissues, a bear, and a book,
But all I could think was the friends that I shook.
Today at preschool, I wanted to play
With Wally and Simon, not miss out all day!
They'd build a block tower, or paint with bright blue,
I'd laugh and I'd color and join the fun too.
Instead I am snuggled with juice on my lap,
Thinking of circle time, wishing a nap.
The window is sunny, but I feel a fright
That Wally and Simon will forget me—just might!
But Mom says, “They’re waiting, and missing you too.
And soon you'll be better and back with your crew.”
So I rest and I draw, and I watch the clock tick,
Counting the minutes ‘til I’m not feeling sick.
For even though coughs make this day gray and tough,
Tomorrow, together, we’ll play long enough!
