“Missing preschool because you’re sick. Wanting to play with my Friends Wally and Simon. Written for young kids”
Today I’m home in bed,
My head feels hot and red,
The tissues pile beside me high
As raindrops patter from the sky.
I cough and sniffle, toss and turn—
Oh, how I miss my classroom fern!
At preschool there’s the cozy mat,
The painting easel, dress-up hat,
But most of all—I miss my friends:
When will these sniffles ever end?
I wish I could run outside to play
With Wally and Simon, every day.
I’d build tall towers, touch the sky,
Zoom our cars as they whiz by,
Draw silly monsters, make a train—
Instead, I look out at the rain.
I see my toys, but they’re not the same
Without my friends to shout my name.
Mom reads me stories, brings me juice—
But I’d rather play some Duck Duck Goose!
Still, mom says soon I’ll feel okay,
And then I’ll race and jump and play.
So for now, I’ll dream and rest and wait—
Wally and Simon, postpone our date!
For soon the coughs and sneezes go,
And I’ll see you at preschool—I miss you so!
