“Driving a boat in the Bahamas”

Blue vault above, the sun a coin so bright,
I skim the turquoise ballroom, trimmed in white—
Bahamas’ bands of sapphire, jade, and pearl,
Where mangroves lean and salt-wind flags unfurl.

The engine hums its gentle lullaby,
As flying fish and laughter leap and fly.
A string of isles—Exumas, Andros, Bimini—
Gemmed beads adrift on sea’s infinity.

Conch shells clustered pink along the shoals,
Harbors painted in pastels fill our souls.
From Nassau’s docks to Eleuthera’s sand,
I chart the way with steady, sun-bronzed hand.

The scent of salt and island pine is sweet;
We chase the horizon where the dolphins greet.
Coral castles glow in water clear,
As gulls wheel over shallows, bold and near.

Slow drift by cays where turtles laze and feed,
Each wave a brushstroke, painting Caribbean speed.
Golden hours catch the compass, soft and slow,
Bahamas breeze and freedom—off we go!
